The manner in which we dress greatly impacts and promotes a serious learning atmosphere. Therefore, we have established dress codes that include school uniforms. All students in grades Pre-One through eight are required to wear the school uniform. The uniforms consist of white shirts with collars and blue skirts or jumpers for girls, and white shirts with collars and dark blue pants for boys. Tzitzit and kipot must be worn by boys at all times. Shirts and sweatshirts may not have any logo printed on them other than the Maimonides Academy logo. Sweatshirts can also be solid white or navy. Accessories such as headwear, belts, ornaments, etc., are permitted, but will be monitored. Girls may wear only solid white or navy tights and/or socks under their uniforms; patterned stockings/ leggings are not permitted. Please be sure to label all clothing. Uniform checks are done daily.
The first time a child is not dressed properly in a school uniform, the parent will be called to bring the appropriate clothing to school. Thereafter, the school will provide necessary clothing and bill the parents or hold the child in the office until proper clothing is brought. Repeated offenses will be treated as a discipline issue. The same policy will apply for Kippot and Tzitzit. Additionally, girls may not wear make-up (including finger nail-polish and hair dye) of any kind to school, boys' hair must be trimmed short. Students can wear closed shoes of choice, however, they must be clean and appropriate for Physical Education class (no stacked heels). If the shoes have laces, they must be laced and tied (no slippers or sandals).
The benefits of school uniforms include:
* Decreasing student
spending for clothes
* Instilling students with team spirit and
school pride
* Helping parents and
students resist peer pressure
* Helping students concentrate
on their school work
* Helping school
officials recognize possible unauthorized
