At Maimonides Academy, art is an important part of the children’s education. The students are encouraged to develop their own individual expression and creativity, which in turn, builds their self-confidence and gives then a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment. The Academy has a fully equipped Art Studio and art Specialist on staff who has had exhibits of her own work shown throughout the United States.

Students are first introduced to the “elements of art” such as line, shape, color, texture and form. Students also develop “media skills” in painting, drawing, design, clay, textiles, collages, and murals, sculpture, masks, puppets and printmaking. In addition, they learn about aspects of art history through the use of specific text, scholastic art magazines and art slide presentations.

An important aspect of the art curriculum is the fact that it connects the children to their heritage and culture and culture. For example, the UCLA Hillel’s Siddur for 199 to 2000 includes 16 drawings by Maimonides students.
